I'm new here. Can't Post - Sign Up!

Hi! I'm new here as well as new at becoming vegetarian, possibly on my way to becoming vegan. I have always preferred to eat other things than meat, but cooked a lot of meat because of my husband. I recently educated myself on the meat industry in the raising of animals for food, and immediately decided I could no longer eat meat period. I thought it might be easier to start off vegetarian and then work my way into becoming vegan, instead of going cold turkey so to speak. My 20 yr old son is also on this trip, and is the one to push me in that direction. My husband hasn't quite made it yet. I'm hoping if I can find vegetarian things he likes he may make the switch. He is a real meat and potatoes man.I am a home maker and love to bake and cook. We are going completely organic as well. I have found some great places to get good organic whole food. I hope to make a lot of friends here and learn a lot as well. Have a great day everyone!

Hello hello! Kudos on your new choices! Our families sound similar. I started as a vegetarian with my mom and recently became vegan while my mom is gradually working in that direction. It's the best thing in the world having someone to support you at home, so it's great you're son is in it with you! I have a feeling that as soon as you start converting your old recipes and trying new ones, your husband will have a hard time complaining. It worked on my dad! He's not a vegetarian, but he agrees he's eating better and yummier than ever at home. Best of luck!

Thank you. I see you are new here too. Smile I am very happy just eating roasted veggies, fresh fruit, simple grains, and some bran mixtures. My hubby is the one needing the "fancy food" I call it. Recipes like spaghetti w/ meat sauce, fancy sauces over pasta and meat, etc. Anything with pasta, potatoes, rice, meat and sauce, and he's a happy camper. The thing is I'm not, and I have been cooking what he likes for the 15 years we've been married. I would usually just put on some soup or make a salad etc. I need to find some real meat and potatoe type dishes to satisfy him. I feel so much better without eating meat and processed food. I really notice a difference when I do.
